Frihet joins the Hermes Agent plugin catalog by Nous Research

Open interoperability between enterprise management systems and artificial intelligence models takes a decisive step today. Frihet’s integration for Hermes Agent has been accepted and merged into the official plugin catalog in Nous Research’s upstream repository. In parallel, we are releasing version 1.0.2 of the Frihet plugin for ChatGPT, engineered around guided workflow skills on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard.

Both milestones share the same rigorous engineering principle: connecting accounting and invoicing with intelligent agents without compromising security, without exposing raw keys in chat transcripts, and with mandatory human-approval gates before any mutating state change.

Upstream inclusion in Nous Research: timeline and verifiable boundaries

The integration into Hermes Agent was verified through two upstream public contributions:

1. Initial acceptance: Upstream PR #135038 was reviewed and merged on October 8, 2026, with confirmation from core maintainer teknium1 in technical discussions.
2. Canonical release pin: Update PR #135271, merged on October 9, 2026, pinned community version v0.1.0 to exact commit 4f092d58398ab252ea1fa6b07bfefacec717abd9.

It is essential to clarify the governance boundary of this release: under Nous Research’s catalog taxonomy, the plugin is designated as tier: community. This denotes that the source code and operational maintenance are handled directly by Frihet at Frihet-io/hermes-frihet, rather than being developed internally by Nous Research or backed by a commercial endorsement. Furthermore, the companion graphical integration in the Connectors UI remains pending under PR #134790 and is not presented as operational until merged upstream.

Control architecture: native commands and the pre_tool_call hook

The Hermes plugin establishes a direct connection to Frihet’s remote endpoint (https://mcp.frihet.io/mcp) via OAuth 2.1 and PKCE, completely eliminating the need to paste static API tokens into conversational prompts.

The distribution bundles a SKILL.md file that enforces read-first scoping on the model, exposing three primary commands:

• /frihet setup: interactive walkthrough guiding the operator through authorized workspace pairing.
• /frihet status: inspects active workspace identity, account entitlements, and connection health.

Rather than presenting an unconstrained list of disparate endpoints, v1.0.2 arranges 33 verified enterprise tools into four modular workflow skills:

The distribution includes an onboardingSkill that primes the assistant on first run, providing context on default currencies and tax rules without blind guesswork.
