The Italian FatturaPA mandate
Italy mandated B2G e-invoicing in 2015 and extended it to all B2B and B2C transactions in January 2019. Every invoice must be issued in FatturaPA XML format and transmitted through the SDI (Sistema di Interscambio), the state-operated clearance network managed by Agenzia delle Entrate. A digital signature is mandatory on invoices to public administrations; between businesses and with consumers it is optional, and the SDI accepts files that are not signed.
